RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2023/2024
AGE 6-8 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 21ST OF JANUARY, 2024
LESSON TWENTY ONE (21)
TOPIC: HOW TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE 2:
THROUGH THANKSGIVING, PRAYER SACRIFICIAL OFFERING 2

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Kings 6-8.

MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.”

LESSON AIM: The children will discover that God keeps His promises.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: Depend on Jesus for God’s promises.

INTRODUCTION: David’s son Solomon became the next King of Israel. The Lord promised David that He would give him rest from his enemies and that came true because by the time Solomon became king, Israel was not at war. David passed along to Solomon his dream of building a permanent house for the Lord, a place where the people could come and worship, a temple.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. When King Solomon finished building the temple, he sent the priests to go and get the Ark of the Covenant and put it in the most holy place inside the new temple.
  2. The presence of the Lord filled the temple because a huge cloud filled the most holy place and the priests could not see enough to do their jobs.
  3. King Solomon invited all of the people to come to the temple for a special dedication which lasted for two weeks.
  4. King Solomon praised God before all the people and reminded them of God’s promise to his father, David in regard to building the temple and how He fulfilled it by letting Solomon build it.
  5. Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord and spread out toad heaven and began to pray to God before the people.
  6. He reminded the Lord that He promised his father David that someone from his family would reign forever, and finally, he told the people to go home.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: God sent His Son Jesus who was born from the family of David. He first came into the world to save all people from their sins. Jesus died on the cross in our place because the wages of sin is death. He was buried and came alive again on the third day. All who believe in Him are saved from their sins and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23).

CLIMAX: After everyone left, the Lord spoke to him that he was pleased with the temple and that it would remain a wonderful place if they obey and follow His teachings.

CONCLUSION: King Solomon promised that he would always follow Him.

CHALLENGE: As you put your trust in the Lord, you can have a relationship with God. The holy spirit will now dwell in you and wants to go everywhere with you so that He can help you, guide you, teach you, and correct you to be righteous so that God can accept your thanksgiving, prayers and offerings.

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Always live a life that pleases God.

INVITATION: If you are not yet believed in Jesus, today you can turn from your sins, believe in the Lord Jesus, and be saved.

LESSON TWENTY TWO (22)
TOPIC:TOPIC: HOW TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE THROUGH: DANCING AND BODY LANGUAGE 3

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Samuel 6:1-14
[1]Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
[2]And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
[3]And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.
[4]And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
[5]And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
[6]And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen [shook it.
7]And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
[8]And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.
[9]And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?
[10]So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
[11]And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.
[12]And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
[13]And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
[14]And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 47:1 “O, clap your hands, all ye peoples! Shout unto God with the voice of triumph!”

LESSON AIM: The children will know that they can worship God in various ways.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God delights in your worship.

INTRODUCTION: Children of God! What is the most interesting way that C you have seen people worship God? (Wait for responses from the children). Singing is not the only way we can show God our worship; there are many ways! We can worship God by dancing and creative art even by being silent. King David danced with all his might when he decided to move the Ark of the Lord to Jerusalem for the second time. King David tried to move the Ark of the Lord in a cart to Jerusalem the first time, along the way, the cart shook and Uzzah touched the Ark to steady it and he was struck dead so the king left it in the house of Obed-Edom.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. The Lord blessed the house of Obed-Edom where the Ark of the Lord was kept for three months:
  2. When King David heard of the blessings of Obed- Edom, he went and brought the Ark of the Lord to Jerusalem, the city of David with gladness.
  3. As the people carrying the Ark moved six steps, King David sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep.
  4. As the Israelites brought the Ark into Jerusalem, King David was full of joy.
  5. King David began to dance in front of everyone and took off his royal robes to praise the Lord.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: We are told in the Bible that God’s food is our praises but God cannot eat the food of a sinner. We all are sinners because according to Psalm 51:5, we were born with a want to sin. Because of God’s love for us, He sent His Son Jesus to take the punishment for sins to be forgiven. Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and came alive again on the third day. When you put your trust in Him, he can now have your sins forgiven. (John 3:16).

CLIMAX: King David and all the Israelites brought the Ark of the Lord to the place erected for it with shouting and the sound of trumpets.

CONCLUSION: King David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord and distributed gifts for everyone.

CHALLENGE: David was inspired by the presence of God that he did not care what anyone thought about him but all that mattered to him was dancing before the Lord with all his might. You too can worship the Lord with all your might if your faith is in Jesus. You can praise God at all times when you are sad, happy, lonely, or confused. God is always there and wants you to worship Him mightily (Psalm 47:1).

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: This week, give gratitude to God for everything by praising, worshiping, and dancing.

INVITATION: You need to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour for your heart to be able to be grateful to God.

LESSON TWENTY THREE (23)
TOPIC: GOD THE FATHER DELIGHTS IN A GRATEFUL HEART

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Chronicles 20:1-22

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 50:23 “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me; and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.”

LESSON AIM: The children will learn to develop hearts of gratitude toward God.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God delights in your heart of gratitude.

INTRODUCTION: Children! Sometimes there are some situations that are very difficult that you think that good can come out of and you do not know who to turn to for help. As children of God, who do you turn to for help? (give room for children to respond). When we turn to other people or things for help without looking to God first to help us in our difficulty, we miss the opportunity to see God’s great power to use that difficult situation and turn it into a blessing.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. King Jehoshaphat was facing a very difficult situation because he has been told some very serious news.
  2. King Jehoshaphat was alarmed by the news so he led the people in Judah to fast and look to God.
  3. King Jehoshaphat publicly prayed and called upon God for His help.
  4. God heard King Jehoshaphat’s prayer and sent Jahaziel to give him His answer that they should not be afraid or discouraged because God was going to fight this battle.
  5. Jehoshaphat and all of Judah responded to God’s answer by praising and worshiping Him

GOSPEL CONNECTION: God loved Jehoshaphat and answered his prayer because he put his trust in God. God loves you and wants to answer your prayers but sin separates you from Him and He cannot hear you. God made a way out for your sins to be forgiven by sending Jesus to Earth to die on the cross. He was buried but rose from the grave on the third day. If you put your trust in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, you can now have your sins forgiven. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

CLIMAX: King Jehoshaphat sent his army into their positions with a group of men singing praises to God.

CONCLUSION: King Jehoshaphat’s enemies turned on each other and fought themselves.

CHALLENGE: When we choose to completely trust God and follow Him, the way God rescues us may look very strange to those watching us. Those following Jesus are only responsible to trust and obey God and not being concerned about how they look to others. Your faith in the Lord will be richly rewarded and your response will be that of a grateful heart singing praises and worshiping the Lord. you may never know how many others will turn away from their sins if they see you with an attitude of a grateful heart to God.

CARRY-OVER ACTIVITY: Let others see you praising and worshiping with a heart full of joy.

INVITATION: Accept Jesus as Lord and Savior to be able to display a grateful heart to God.

LESSON TWENTY FOUR (24)
TOPIC: GOD THE SON DELIGHTS IN A GRATEFUL HEART

BIBLE TEXT: Luke 7:37-48.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 50:23 “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me, and to him who ordereth his conversationt aright will I show the salvation of God.”

LESSON AIM: The children will put their trust in Jesus to forgive them their sins and lead them to God.

CHILD-RELATED TRUTH: God wants you to trust Jesus to forgive your sins.

INTRODUCTION: Children! Imagine what it feels like when you are children to respond). There was this woman who was anxious to see Jesus. She knew that Jesus was to have dinner at one of the Pharisee’s houses and hurried over there to wait for Him. The bible tells us that she was not invited but nothing can stop her from seeing Him. She knew that all the wrong things she had done and unwise decisions she had taken, it is only Jesus who can free her from them.

PROGRESSION OF EVENT

  1. Jesus met a Pharisee named Simon who invited Him to his house to eat.
  2. A sinful woman who was not invited came to Simon’s house and knelt on the floor behind Jesus and began to cry, she washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, dried his feet with her long hair and put perfume on His feet.
  3. Simon began to think in his mind questioning the true nature of Jesus because he felt that Jesus is letting a sinful woman touch Him.

4 Jesus could read Simon’s mind and decided to tell him a story of two men.

  1. One borrowed 500 denarii and the other, 50 denarii and the lender later told them that they do not have to pay back.

6 Jesus asked Simon which of those men do you think loved the money lender most? And he answered the one who owed the most.

GOSPEL CONNECTION: Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth to take the punishment for our sins. Because of God’s love for us, He sent His only Son into the world to live like men but without sin. He died on the cross, and was buried but came alive from the grave on the third day so that your sins can be forgiven (John 3:16). It is only Jesus who can forgive sins.

CLIMAX: Jesus said to Simon, this woman did all you were supposed to do as My host but you did not so Jesus turned to her and said her sins which were much have been forgiven her.

CONCLUSION: Others at the table said to themselves who is this Man who can forgive sins, Jesus said to the woman to go in peace and that her faith has saved her.

CHALLENGE: We can come to Jesus at any time because He is always willing to listen. Just like the sinful woman who was not invited but interrupted the party and went to see Jesus, we can speak to Jesus at any time. The amazing thing about Jesus is that He forgives. Do you know that Jesus can forgive all your wrong doing all you need is to admit that you are a sinner and confess all your wrongdoing so that Jesus will forgive you too (1 John 1:9).

CARRY-OVERACTIVITY: This week, tell others that Jesus loves them and will forgive their sins.

INVITATION: Jesus can only forgive your sins and save you if you believe in Him as Lord and Saviour (Acts 16:32).
