LESSON TWENTY (20)
TOPIC: HOW TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE 1 THROUGH SINGING PRAISES TO GOD

BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 147:1-20

MEMORY VERSE: Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

LESSON AIM: To let the children know how to express gratitude to God through songs.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God deserves our praises.

INTRODUCTION: Singing praises to God is a response of a grateful hearts to the many blessings of God in our lives and the good promises He has for us in the future. God has given us all, and the only thing we can give in turn is praises from a grateful heart. It is good to sing praises unto God, with thanksgiving accompany with musical instruments. It is only a person with a heart of gratitude that can praise God by worshiping Him with Spiritual songs, Hymns and musical organs. Worship and praise God for His wondrous works in our lives.

STUDY GUIDE
A. DEFINITION AND MEANING 1. Spiritual songs-songs which are spontaneous and are inspired by the Holy Spirit. 2. Hymns- These are formal and traditional songs which are sung by the congregation in praise of God in public. 3. Praise-You praise God for who He is. It is the truthful acknowledgment of the righteous act of God. For example He is the Almighty, the just God, everlasting Father. 4. Worship- Worship is an attitude of the heart that reverenced God and sometimes accompanying with Speaking in tongues. Sometimes worship is done by bowing or kneeling which shows humility and surrender.

B. WHY SING PRAISE TO GOD Psalm 33:1-21

  1. Sing praise to God because of his creative word (vv. 4-9).
  2. Sing praise to God because of his mighty wisdom (vv. 10-12).
  3. Sing praise to God because of his sovereign care (vv. 13-19).
  4. Sing praise to Him because of His uprightness
  5. All his work is done in faithfulness -trustworthy. Good.
  6. The earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
  7. God’s wondrous works prompt singing (1Ch 16:9).
  8. God’s holiness ought to move us to sing (Ps 30:4).
  9. Sing to Him because He is our Rock (Ps 95:1).
  10. Thankfulness should move us to sing to Him (Ps 147:7).
  11. For providing us Comfort. Psalm 13:6.
  12. For His provisions. 2 Corinthians 9:8-11. 13. For His protection. Psalm 32:7.
  13. For direction. Pro. 3:5-6.

C. HOW DO WE PRAISE GOD Psalm 150

  1. Praise Him by worshipping.
  2. Praise God with spiritual songs.
  3. Praise Him with dance. Psalms 149:3.
  4. Praise Him with instruments.
  5. Praise Him with Hymn Psalm 8, 19, 29.

D. BENEFITS OF PRAISING GOD

  1. Praise lifts your spirit. Psalm 42:5-6
  2. Praise helps you sense God’s presence. Psalm 140:13
  3. Praise enlarges your perception of God. Psalm 69:30
  4. Praise reveals solutions we can’t see. Psalm 73:16-17
  5. Praise helps us remember God’s blessing. Psalm 105:1,5
  6. Praise guarantee God’s protection. 2 Chronicles 207. Praise breaks chains and opens doors. Acts 16:26

CONCLUSION: We can praise God by singing shouting, dancing accompany with the use of musical instruments.

INVITATION: You can only sing as a child of God if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

LIFE APPLICATION: You have to be born of the Spirit of God before you can worship in Spirit.

LESSON TWENTY ONE (21)
TOPIC: HOW TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE 2:
THROUGH THANKSGIVING, PRAYER SACRIFICIAL OFFERING (CASH OR KIND)

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

MEMORY VERSE: PSALMS 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

LESSON AIM: To let the children know that it is good to thank God in all things.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Thankfulness is an indication of gratefulness.

INTRODUCTION: When someone wants to go to a country other than his/hers, he/she needs a visa which gives permit to enter the new territory. You are treated as an intruder and unwanted guest when you enter a country without a valid Visa. Such a fellow may be deported to his/ her native country. Thanksgiving is a visa to the presence of God. Today’s topic tells us other ways we can express our gratitude to God.

STUDY GUIDE:
A. HOW TO BE THANKFUL. Luke 17:12-19
Think about what God has done for you.
List them one by one
Recount what God has done to him.
Appreciate Him for each of them.

B. EXPRESSION OF THANKSGIVING Ps 30:12, Ps 50:14, Ps 105:1, Amos 4:5, 1kg 8:5-10
Utter thanksgiving with your mouth…. In prayer. Testify about what He has done for you…. In testimony.
Give your substance in appreciation of His goodness.
When giving to God, give beyond what is convenient for you.
Give your body.

C. ACTS OF THANKSGIVING, PRAYERS AND TESTIMONY. Matthew 6:9-13.

  1. Whenever you want to pray, always let your thanksgiving to be the first.
  2. Do not rush through thanksgiving
  3. Be thoughtful and thank God for each of His goodness you can remember. You will be surprised at how long you will spend in prayer If you are a thankful child of God.
  4. Thanksgiving and testimony.
  5. When God does something for you, having thanked Him in prayer, proclaim it for others to hear.
  6. Testimonies magnify God and guarantee our victory.

D. TRUTH ABOUT THANKSGIVING AND SACRIFICIAL OFFERING:

  1. Thanksgiving is not complete without giving (thanks + giving=thanksgiving).
  2. Your offering is a demonstration of how thankful you are.
  3. Sacrificial Offering commands God’s visitations and blessings.
  4. Sacrificial giving is not a function of how large your offering is, it is an indication of your obedience and what you have.
  5. Sacrificial offering can be in Cash or Kind. Cash: You can give your money to God, you can pledge your lunch money for period of time to God. However, while giving beyond your parents giving cash as offering, always carry your parents along for accountability saka Examples of what you can give in Kind: you can give your time, skills talents, energy and resources to God.

E. PREPARATION FOR THANKSGIVING:

  1. Thanksgiving must be deliberate.
  2. Take out time to think of the goodness of God every day.
  3. Itemize what you are to thank God for.
  4. While packaging your offering, present it as though you are giving to a VIP.
  5. Be joyful when giving offering to God.
  6. When it is thanksgiving Sunday in church, dress your best and dance before God.

F. BENEFIT OF THANKSGIVING. Luke 17:12-19

  1. God’s approval Gen 4:4
  2. More blessing
  3. Repeated miracles

CONCLUSION: Thanksgiving is a visa while praise is the key to the inner chamber of God. It is the ladder to the greater miracles and breakthrough. Be thankful.

LIFE APPLICATION: Thanksgiving is a good lifestyle. Thank God as well as people who are good to you. Always say thank you for any act of kindness you receive from today and devote at least 10minutes to thank God for the next seven days.

INVITATION: You can only worship God with thanksgiving, prayer, anc sacrificial offerings only when you have surrender your life to Christ.

LESSON TWENTY TWO (22)
TOPIC: HOW TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE 3:
THROUGH DANCING AND BODY LANGUAGE.

BIBLE TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 6:14-22

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Sam 6:14 ‘Then David danced before the Lord with all His Might, and David was wearing a linen ephod”.

LESSON AIM: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to dance before God in gratitude.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Dancing before God is a pleasing expression of gratitude to God.

INTRODUCTION: Dancing as a way of gratitude to God is the movement of the body to the rhyme of a godly music. Dancing is demonstration of your loyalty, love and gratitude to God. Dancing is a show of your humility to God.

David, the dancer.” How could you have forgotten your exalted position? You danced shamelessly today, why didn’t you show class and royalty in dancing? You pissed me off by dancing like an ordinary peasant” lamented Michal, the wife of David. She wondered why a King will be Jumping, clapping and sweating forgetting all the royal training about grace and mannerism. There should at least be difference between the rich and the poor, the high and lowly, the royalty and the commoner, she reasoned. David looked at her intently knowing fully well that Michal lacked the understanding of dancing and its importance before God, he highlighted why, how and where dancing should take place.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHY DANCE BEFORE GOD? Ps 150:2-6, Ps 68:19, Ps 95:7

  1. God is good to us. He daily loads us with benefits.
  2. God is worthy of honour. He is the greatest, highest and almighty.
  3. We are created to honour Him.
  4. To glorify and worship God

B. HOW SHOULD WE DANCE BEFORE GOD? 2 SAMUEL 6:14

  1. Wholeheartedly
  2. Joyfully
  3. Energetically

C. WHERE SHOULD WE DANCE? 2 SAMUEL 6:14

  1. In the presence of God.
  2. In the midst of believers. (God’s People)
  3. When listening to Godly Music.

D. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT DANCED TO THE LORD
a. Mariam and the children of Israel-Exodus 15:20
b. King David-2 Samuel 6:16
c. The woman of Israel-1 Samuel 18:6
d. The prodigal son-Luke 15:25

LIFE APPLICATION: Dance is not ordinary, it is a supernatural form of worship, when you dance before God, you are glorifying God, while when you dance ungodly dance or dance to ungodly music, you are glorifying the devil. Purpose to glorify God in your dancing from today.

CONCLUSION: The lyrics of a song once said “I will rather dance before God than dance before an Idol”. Always seize the opportunity to dance before God when you are in the gathering of the believer, let your dancing not be determined by feelings, just dance yourself into God heart.

Discussion: Briefly differentiate between godly dance and ungodly dance.

LESSON TWENTY THREE (23)
TOPIC: GOD THE FATHER DELIGHTS IN A GRATEFUL HEART

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Chronicles 20:15-22
[15]And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
[16]To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
[17]Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
[18]And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
[19]And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
[20]And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
[21]And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
[22]And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 100:4, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name”.

LESSON AIM: To let the children know that God delight in grateful people CENTRAL TRUTH: A grateful heart is a delight to God.

INTRODUCTION: God the Father delight in a grateful heart is the first person of the Trinity, which also include His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The word Trinity does not appear in the bible, but there are different places in the bible where the three Father, Son and Holy Spirit were mentioned together such as 1 John 5:7-8, Mathew 3:16-17. Jehoshaphat was a good example of a king who gave thanks to God The Father in the bible. Some kings came to battle with Jehoshaphat and he sought the face of God. He started by praising and thanking God for all the things He has done. He praised His Almightiness and that none is able to withstand Him. When they sang and praised the beauty of God’s holiness, God was delighted and took up His battle against those kings.

A. WHO IS GOD THE FATHER?

  1. He is our creator. Genesis 1:1
  2. He is our Redeemer. Job 19:25

B. ATTRIBUTES OF GOD THE FATHER

  1. He is holy, just and fair. Psalm 99:9
  2. God is love. 1 John 4:8
  3. God has always existed. Psalm 90:2
  4. God is a Spirit. John 4:24.
  5. God fills the whole world. Acts 7:48-49.
  6. He is the only true God. Isaiah 45:21-22.
  7. His understanding and power are infinite. Psalm 147:5.

C. ACCOMPLISHMENT OF GOD THE FATHER

  1. He created the world, the universe, and man. Genesis 1:1, 26-27.
  2. As a big God, He knows each person’s need. Philippians 4:19.
  3. God set a plan to save humanity from sin. John 3:16.
  4. God graciously sent Jesus to die in our place. Romans 5:6-8.
  5. God the Father has triumphed over Satan. Colossians 2:14-15.

D. WHAT DELIGHTS GOD THE FATHER

  1. Singing praises to Him.
  2. Making melody in our heart to God.
  3. Praising the beauty of His holiness.
  4. Appreciating Him for His mercies and faithfulness. 5. Praising Him in dance and musical instruments.
  5. A heart that appreciate the salvation of his/her soul.

CONCLUSION: Gratitude is an attitude and response of thankfulness to the kindness of God and others.

INVITATION: If you want your praise to delight God, you must first of all give your life to Jesus Christ.

LIFE APPLICATION: A Grateful heart gives heartfelt praise to God.

LESSON TWENTY FOUR (24)
TOPIC: GOD THE SON DELIGHTS IN A GRATEFUL HEART.

BIBLE TEXT: Luke 7:37-48

MEMORY VERSE: Luke 17:17, “And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?”

LESSON AIM: To let the children know that Jesus Christ is expecting us to show gratitude to Him because He died for our sins. We need to be grateful to Jesus Christ for His sacrifice on the cross.

CENTRAL TRUTH: Be grateful to the sacrifices Jesus did for us

INTRODUCTION: Jesus is the second person in trinity. Jesus was sent by God to take the punishment of sin for the whole world by shedding His blood on the cross. Jesus Christ demonstrated His delight in grateful heart when He commended a woman that came to Him with an alabaster box ointment to wipe His feet with her hair. She appreciated Jesus Christ for forgiving her of her sins. Mark 14:7-13.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHO IS GOD THE SON? He is

  1. The second person in the Trinity 2John 1:3
  2. Jesus Christ the saviour of the World. John 3:116
  3. The wonder working God. psalm 40:5
  4. The soon coming King. 1 Thessalonians 5:2
  5. The prince of peace. Isaiah 9:6

B. THE WORKS OF JESUS

  1. He is The way to salvation. Acts 4:12
  2. He is The way to God. John 14:6, Acts 4:12
  3. He came to give us eternal life. John 5:24
  4. He came to show us the love of the Father, so that God can dwell in our hearts. 1 John 4:15.
  5. He came to set the captives free, to be able to serve God. Ephesians 4:7-8.

C. THE AUTHORITY AND POWER GOD HAS GIVEN JESUS (God the Son)

  1. Jesus is seated on the right hand of God in heaven. Mark 16:19, Romans 8:34
  2. God has given all authority to Jesus. Mathew 28:18, Colossians 2:10.
  3. Jesus is Lord. Philippians 2:11
  4. God has made Him judge of the world. Mathew 16:27, John 5:22
  5. Jesus will also sit in judgment of Christians. Romans 14:10, 2 Corinthians 5:10.

D. TITLE OF GOD THE SON

  1. Emmanuel-“God with us” (Isaiah 7:14)
  2. Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
  3. The Bread of Life (John 6:35,48,51).
  4. The Light of the World. John 8:12;9:5
  5. The Lamb of God. John 1:29,36
  6. The Good Shepherd. John 10:11
  7. The way, the Truth and the Life. John 14:6.

E. HOW DO WE SHOW JESUS WE ARE GRATEFUL?
a. By accepting Him as our Lord and Saviour.
b. You need to love God with all your heart, soul and mind.
c. Tell him in prayer that you are grateful.
d. By living an obedient and a holy life.
e. By telling others about Jesus Christ.

F. BIBLICALLY EXAMPLES OF THOSE THAT SHOW GRATITUDE
a. The woman with alabaster box of ointment. Luke 7:37
b. The one leper out of ten that were cleansed. Luke 17:17
c. The woman with the issues of blood. Matthew 9:20-22
d. The mad man of Gedarane (He published Christ through out the whole city). Luke 8:39.

CONCLUSION: When you are grateful to God the Son for His works of redemption in your life, He delights in it.

INVITATION: The only way you can show appreciation to the son of God is to accept Him as your Lord and Saviour.

LIFE APPLICATION: You need to develop an attitude of praising God through the name of Jesus Christ.
