RCCG LOWER JUNIOR ZEAL FOR 2024/2025
AGE 9-12 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 15TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2024
LESSON THREE (3)
TOPIC: THE SANCTIFIER: GOD

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
[3]For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
[4]That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
[5]Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
[6]That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
[7]For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Thessalonia 5:23. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

LESSON AIM: To let the Children know that the Almighty God is the only one that can sanctify us.

CENTRAL TRUTH: God is still in the business of sanctifying.

INTRODUCTION: Sanctification is God’s gracious work that enables Christians to follow God’s moral code, to love Him, to love their neighbors and to love even their enemies as themselves. As a work of God, sanctification includes acquiring new habits, practices and thoughts. But it’s more than the natural work that a wise psychologist or counselor can accomplish in a person. God is our Father not only in that he is our Creator but that he is also our Redeemer; this is what distinguishes the Christian’s relationship to God and what allows us to relate to him as Father. Jesus claimed God as his Father and taught his followers to do the same. God is the Father and is also the Son, whom the Father sent to carry out his plan of redemption. In today lesson, we will discuss the role of God the father in our lives and how we can relate to Him as the father.

STUDY GUIDE
A. WHO IS GOD THE FATHER? Jesus taught us that God is our Father. It’s all about God. Creation is God’s world; history is God’s story; and you are God’s person. You are not your own; you were bought at a price. You belong to God, and your story is just a tiny part of God’s great story.

  1. God is holy: Leviticus 11:44 there is no one like Him; He is totally unique and different; He is completely good and righteous.
  2. God is eternal: Psalm 90:2 He is the only one who always has been and always will be. He is eternal in every way: in his knowledge, power, presence and love. You can never exaggerate God!
  3. God is worthy: Exodus 15:11 He is worth every bit of honor and praise you can give Him. God is worth more than you can give Him, you can never give God too much!

B. HOW DOES GOD EXPRESS FATHERHOOD TOWARD US? A good dad cares for and provides for his children. Jesus revealed a loving Father who:

  1. Desires to have an intimate relationship with us. A friendship with God is possible through Jesus Christ. We can be honest with Him and share our struggles. He is ready to help us overcome temptation and eager to provide for us. Knowing God as Father gives us fellowship and a sense of oneness with Him.
  2. Wants to communicate with us. When we pray, He listens. When He speaks, we can recognize His voice. Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened” (Matt.7:7-8).
  3. Loves us unconditionally. The Lord is committed to us based on His own loving nature, not a sinless performance. The word “unconditional” may not appear in the Bible, but God the Father loves us just as He loved Jesus (John 17:23).
  4. Meets all our needs. Our Father knows what we need before we ask (Matt. 6:8). We don’t have to be anxious about basic provision; He will provide necessities, just as He does for the birds (vs. 6:25-26).
  5. Disciplines us. The fact that God corrects us is one of the signs that we are His children. Heb. 12:5-11. Just as earthly parents discipline their children to help them develop character, the Father corrects us so that we will grow in holiness.
  6. Guides us to do the right thing. Prov. 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Psalm 32:8 expresses a similar reassurance.

C. GOD THE FATHER LOVES:

  1. Holiness. Hebrews 12:14
  2. Humility. Colossians 3:12
  3. Closer walk with Him. Genesis 17:1
  4. Righteousness and truthfulness Hebrews 1:19
  5. True worship John 4:24

D. GOD THE FATHER HATES:

  1. Lying. Proverb 12:22
  2. Stealing. Ephesians 4:28
  3. Fighting. James 3:16
  4. Abusive words. Colossians 3:8
  5. Keeping malice. Ephesians 4:31
  6. Cheating in examinations.
  7. Deception. Proverbs 11:18

CONCLUSION: God the father is holy, He’s eternal, and He’s worthy, He expresses His fatherhood to us in diverse ways and He disciplines us when necessary, but He hates sin, the best relationship you can have in life is with God the father, because He’s the one that makes provision for your salvation.

LIFE APPLICATION: He is a God who never lets His children down.

INVITATION: God the father is calling you today to come and surrender to Him.
