BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7.
[3]For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
[4]That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
[5]Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
[6]That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
[7]For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

STUDY GUIDE
A. THE SANCTIFIER: GOD
One of the names of God is Jehovah Mekadeshkem – a Hebrew phrase that means “The Lord who sanctifies you” Exodus 31:13 and Ezekiel 20:12. This title emphasizes God’s role as the Sanctifier, the One who sets apart His people for holy purposes and empowers them to live in accordance with His will. It underscores the divine initiative in the process of sanctification and highlights the importance of God’s work in the lives of believers. Paul, recognizing that sanctification is primarily a work of God, told the Thessalonians “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely” 2 Thessalonians 5:23 and each of the three Persons of the Godhead is involved.

B. THE ROLE OF GOD IN SANCTIFICATION
i. He equips us to play our role in the sanctification process -Hebrews 13:20-21.

ii. He disciplines His children to conform Hebrews 12:5- 11.

C. WHAT SANCTIFICATION DOES
i. Sanctification conforms us to the likeness of God. We are to be in His image, and stamped with the likeness of Jesus Christ.

ii. Sanctification conforms us also to the will of God.

iii. A sanctified Christian is submissive and obedient. He desires the divine will above everything else in life as kinder and wiser for him than anything else can be. He is conscious that he misses something if he misses it.

LIFE APPLICATION: God plays a significant role in sanctifying us and we also must be actively involved.

CONCLUSION: Sanctification is a lifelong process that requires God’s grace and your willingness to cooperate with His work in your life. You have to continue to seek God and grow daily in holiness.
