TOPIC: THE SANCTIFIER: JESUS

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Corinthians 3:18
[18]But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Ephesians 1:7-10
[7]In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
[8]Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
[9]Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
[10]That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

MEMORY VERSE: Eph. 5:26, “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word”.

LESSON AIM: To help the young adult appreciate the person of Jesus as our sanctifier.

INTRODUCTION: Christ took on human flesh to save and to sanctify us from the power of sin. Since His Word demands holiness in those who claim to be His disciples, it is reasonable to believe that He has also made it possible to live a holy life. When Christ died on the cross, He provided for man’s sanctification (Hebrews 10:10, 14). Jesus’ death on the cross, the shedding of His blood, provided eternal sanctification for those who believe and accept the provision (Hebrews 13:12). The study helps us appreciate the person of Jesus, the attributes/character of Jesus and how Jesus sanctifies the believer.

A. WHO IS JESUS THE SANCTIFIER?
i. Jesus is the Son of God Mark 1:1, Matt 3:17
ii. Jesus is God’s word made flesh John 1:1-4:14
iii. Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father John 14:6
iv. Jesus is the truth
v. Jesus is the Bread of Life
vi. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world John 1:29

B. CHARACTER OF JESUS THE SANCTIFIER
i. He is Holy Heb 4:15
ii. He is Loving 1 John4:9-10
iii. He is Compassionate Luke 7:13, Mark 5:19
iv. He is Truth John 14:6
v. He is our Intercessor Rom 8:34; Heb 7:25
vi. He is our Advocate 1 John 2:1

C. HOW DOES JESUS SANCTIFY US? 2 Corinthians 3:18
i. By the Truth (which is His word) John 17:17 says we are sanctified by the truth which is the word of God. We are redeemed in Him Eph 1:7
ii. By we believing (having faith) in His finished work on the cross
iii. By beholding on Christ as our mirror 2 Corinthians 3:18

CONCLUSION: We are called to be like Jesus (Romans 8:29, 1 John 3:3). Rather than commanding us to imitate Him, the New Testament reveals a truth more profound and dynamic. The New Testament teaches that the life of Christ can be lived in and through us (Galatians 2:20). Jesus Himself indwells us by His Holy Spirit and lives out His life in and through us.

PRAYER/CONFIRMATION:
Oh! Lord, I believe in your sanctifying power, therefore I surrender my totality to you, sanctify me spirit, soul and body.
