Do You Have a Heart for God?

November 21, 2021

PRAY OVER THIS:

“So Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men died together that same day.” (1 Samuel 31:6)

PONDER THIS:

Don’t complain because you weren’t born with a silver spoon in your mouth or because other people have better opportunities than you. Sometimes a person is given the opportunity but doesn’t have the ability. Saul had both ability and opportunity. Conversely, David didn’t have those kinds of opportunities. When they were looking for someone to be the next king over Israel, nobody even thought of little David. David wasn’t the kind of guy who was head and shoulders above everybody else, but he, not Saul, became Israel’s mightiest king because he had a heart for God. It is better to have a heart for God than all the opportunities, wit, wisdom, attractiveness, and wealth put together.

Do you have a heart for God? Circumstances cannot make you and circumstances cannot break you. You may have every advantage in this world and play the fool. You may also have very few advantages but be used by God, for God has not chosen the mighty things of this world. God has chosen the weak. God has chosen the foolish. God has chosen those that the world despises, and He uses them.

  • How can you judge if you have a heart for God?
  • What and who has God given you to help you assess this?

PRACTICE THIS:

Take time to read what the Bible says about God’s heart and the hearts of those who belong to Him. Have a conversation with a trusted Christian brother or sister and ask for honest feedback regarding whether your heart honors God or something else.
