DON’T BE SHALLOW IN YOUR PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

Daniel 2:17-20 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

How do you praise and thank God when He does something for you, like when you receive an answer to prayer? Are you as deliberate and detailed in your thanksgiving unto God as you were when you were making that request known to God? One mistake we sometimes make in our praise and thanksgiving is that we tend to generalize, summarize and downplay the things that God does for us. We thank God like what He did was just ‘one of those things’ and He was supposed to do it. We ought to shout, rejoice, be glad and talk a lot about every single thing that God does for us. We need to be excited about God’s goodness and sing new songs unto Him for the thing He has done for us.

We need to look at what God did from different dimensions and talk about God’s nature and character from different angles. Make your praise and thanksgiving more elaborate than you elaborate on your
challenges or negative experiences.

Do you know that the last sentence of our text above was just the beginning of how Daniel blessed the name of God for revealing King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream to him? The Bible says, “Daniel answered and
said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and
knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter,” (Dan. 2:20-23). You will praise and thank God more than this.

Prayer Focus:
Think of something God has done for you or your family and give God a deliberate and elaborate praise and thanksgiving for it.
