and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness…
Scripture does not celebrate Noah for his naval genius. While he was an impressive boat builder, he is remembered for something more world-shaking.
Because Noah believed God and behaved like he believed, his entire family was saved – eight people in all. That is worth celebrating!
Today’s verse refers to Noah as a preacher of righteousness. Where and to whom did Noah preach? Genesis never mentions him standing behind a pulpit. But every day, Noah shared a message with his life, when he moved in Godly fear to obey His commands.
What message are we preaching to our children? Does our behavior cause them to believe in the God that we serve?
While Noah’s sons may not have understood his actions, they trusted him and followed him into the ark. Our children may not understand why we pray or attend church, but if we set the right example, they will implement those same practices in their own lives.
Are we living consistent lives of faith? Are we beacons that light the way to Jesus in this dark world? If we set the right example, they will follow us into the Ark of salvation. We may not be impressive boat builders, but we will be remembered for something more world-shaking.
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you be filled with the power of Jesus to demonstrate a consistent life of faith. May you always light the way to Jesus, the Architect of our salvation. Amen and amen.
