Make Room For A Miracle

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare of the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him. He will shield you with his wings. He will shelter you with his feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” Psalm 91:1-2,4

In 2 Kings 4, there is a story about a wealthy woman and her husband who met Elisha and invited him over for dinner. This became a regular occurrence whenever Elisha was in town. In verses 9-10, the wealthy woman tells her husband, “I am sure this man who stops in from time to time is a holy man of God. Let’s make a little room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp.” Another version says, “Who passes by us regularly.” She was referring to Elisha, the prophet who had received a double portion of God’s anointing and was performing many powerful miracles. This woman was saying that it wasn’t enough for Elisha (who can represent God) to just come and visit once in a while. She wanted to make room for him in her home. She wanted him to spend as much time as possible with her family, so she had her husband make him a bedroom.

God wants to be more than just a “passerby” in your life on Sundays at church. He wants you to make room for Him to live in your home with your family. He wants to be involved in your personal goals and dreams. He desires to be a part of how you raise your children and how you treat your spouse. He even wants to be with you in your day-to-day activities, like working at your job or caring for your kids. He wants you to live a full and abundant life in close fellowship with Him.

So Elisha, who before was just a visitor in the wealthy woman’s house, became an inhabitant of her home. He later ended up praying for her to have a child when it seemed impossible, and she eventually conceived and had a son. Then, years after, when the son got sick and died, the woman carried him up to Elisha’s room, and he prayed for him, and the boy was raised back to life! All these blessings and miracles happened for this woman’s family because she decided to let God take up residence in her home.

Don’t be satisfied with letting God be a “passerby.” Invite Him into every part of your life today. It is a decision you will never regret.
