MOVING FROM WORRY TO WORSHIP

Genesis 28:10-11, 16-18

Jacob…set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night …. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. *When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” He… said, “How awesome is this place!.… Jacob took the stone …and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it.

After receiving the blessing from his father, Jacob had to run away because his brother Esau was out to kill him. Along his journey, he stopped somewhere and took a stone to use as a pillow to pass the night. Can you imagine how worried and uncomfortable Jacob must have been feeling at this point? The many fears and questions that might have been running through his mind? But that night, he had an encounter with God that changed his entire countenance and attitude. In that frustrating situation, God revealed Himself to Jacob. God opened his eyes to see heaven, opened with angels ascending and descending and God spoke to him and assured him of His presence, protection and blessings.

Suddenly, that same Jacob woke up and worshipped God. He was in awe at God’s presence he had experienced and he turned the same stone he was not happy to use as a pillow, into an altar. He was filled with hope. Everything that had happened was an opportunity for him to have an encounter with God that changed his life. There may be experiences you have gone through that have filled your heart with worry, fear or frustration. God will open your eyes to see Him, His hand and His glory in that situation and your life and attitude to that situation will change forever. He who preserved you will lift you up.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for preserving me in my trying time and I thank you for the new revelation of your glory and plans for me.
