PRACTICAL LOVE IN THE FAMILY (2)

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching. I believe your family has been experiencing a positive transformation since I began this teaching last week. This week, we will dive deeper by examining practical ways wives can express love to their husbands and parents to their children.

Wives, do you submit to your husbands at home? The Word says: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22). If you do not submit, then how do you prove your love to him? Abusive words and “I love you?” cannot proceed from the same your mouth (James 3:10). The Bible says concerning the virtuous woman: The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil (Proverbs 31:11-12).

As a virtuous woman, you must express your love freely to your husband so he can safely trust you. To have a successful family, you must love your husband totally, and it must be based on the Word of God, not on situations, finances, proximity, appearance, etc. Also, children do not only need to be shown love but should be taught to love. It becomes difficult for them to love when they see their parents fighting and arguing in their presence. The best way to teach them is by example. Tell them you love them and ask them if they love you too. It is not enough to buy them clothes and shoes; give them your time and attention too.

Moody Monthly, a young and successful attorney, said of his father, “The greatest gift I ever received was a gift I got one Christmas when my dad gave me a small box. Inside it was a note that says, ‘Son, this year, I will give you 365 hours and 1 hour every day after dinner. We will talk about anything you want to talk about, go anywhere you want to go and play what you want to play. It will be your hour!’ My dad did not only keep his promise, but every year he renewed it, and it is the greatest gift I ever had in my life. I am the result of his time.”

When you study the lives of some of the great, positive, and history-making figures, you will often find out that they speak of the influence of their parent. Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, “All that I am I owe to my angel mother.” General Douglas Mac Arthur said, “My sainted mother taught me devotion to God and a love of my country which have ever sustained me. To her, I yield anew a son’s reverent thanks.” It is my earnest prayer that your children will rise and call you blessed and share wonderful testimonies of how you have impacted their lives.

Friend, God is love! To bring God into your marriage and home, you must love your spouse and family members unconditionally. Remember, love is not love until it is expressed. As you express your love to each other, in particular, and other family members in general, great shall be your peace.

However, until you are born again, you cannot express love effectively to your spouse and members of your family. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are set for this, please say this prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
