PRAYING WITH THE GRACE AND CONFIDENCE OF CHRIST

1John 5:14-15 (GNB), Philippians 4:6 (GNB)

We have courage in God’s presence, because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will. He hears us whenever we ask him; and since we know this is true, we know also that he gives us what we ask from him. *Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.

God wants us to always pray with the confidence of Christ. Do you remember how Jesus prayed before feeding the five thousand (John 6:11)? Or how He prayed before raising Lazarus from the dead, (John 11:41-42)? Or how Jesus prayed in John 17? Jesus never prayed with doubt in His heart. He was always sure that God heard Him and that He would receive answers to His prayers. This is how God wants us to pray always. The reason God heard Jesus’ prayers was because of the reverence He had for God, (Heb.5:7).

To pray in the name of Christ is to pray with the authority of Christ or to pray as if it is Christ praying. Pray with the consciousness that God the Father loves you as He loves Jesus, (John 16:23-27). Pray with the consciousness and empowerment of the Spirit, (Eph.6:18). Don’t pray as if you are trying to beg God to give you what He does not want to give you.

Jesus said, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom,” (Luke 12:32). He wants to give you even more than you are asking Him for, (Eph.3:20). Pray with the consciousness of the grace of Christ. Pray in line with the promises of God and God’s will for you in Christ. Pray with faith, (Heb.11:6). Pray with joy, confidence, expectation and thanksgiving.
