Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

After heartbreak and a time of tears, each of us has a personal decision to make. We must reason it out to our own conclusion.

Is God’s Word true or is it not? If His promise is true, it will endure. If His Word is faithful, it will come to pass. If it is unerring, we must choose – in spite of our broken heart – to persevere and hold to God’s unchanging hand.

David and his mighty men faced the same dilemma in I Samuel 30. When their city was destroyed and their families carried into captivity, they wept bitter tears together. Afterwards, though, they made two distinct decisions. David sought the Lord, but his men began to look for someone to blame.

In their emotional state, they wanted to pin the fault on David. Why did he drag them off to war? Why did no one protect their own? Is he really the anointed king of Israel? And in their souls’ great grief, they decided to stone David.

We must take great care to guard our hearts in seasons of deep grief. Heartbreak will define us or we will define it. Our choices can drive us into the arms of our Redeemer or far away from Him. What we choose determines whether we will be a victim or a victor.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Be assured that God is with you. He will never leave nor forsake you. He is with you to the very end. Receive the comfort of His promise.
