Righteousness and Confidence
by Dr. (Mrs) Lizzy Johnson-Suleman

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Zechariah 9-10

TEXT: “If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear.”
Job 11 :14 – 15.

One great sponsor of confidence and boldness is righteousness. Hence scripture says, “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Prov. 28 :1.

The righteous has ‘no skeleton in his closet’, he walks uprighty following the instructions and laid down principles, so he walks confidently and his bold when called upon to defend his course and also bold in the face of opposition.

But the wicked, also called the sinner lacks confidence because sin is a deflator of confidence. It sponsors fear, guilt and insecurity. That is why when a sinner is taken unaware on an issue which he is guilty, he fidget and stutters in his speech because sin punctures confidence. But when given room to prepare, the sinner resolves to lying to cover up himself which is still lack of confidence and competence because they walk hand in hand.

Before Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden of Eden, there was no record of them hiding from the presence of God. But when they sinned by disobeying God’s command, scripture says, “And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.” Gen. 3 :8.

Sin punctured their confidence and reduced them to taking cover in a lesser creature which they named. That is what happens whenever you leave your status of righteousness by committing sin. Rather than being bold and confidence, you sink more in sin by taking cover in lies thereby selling out to the devil.

Righteousness sponsors boldness but sin generates fear. Hence when God called Adam and said unto him, “Where art thou?” Adam said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked: and I hid myself. Gen. 3 :9 – 10.

Child of God, we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, salvation gave us that gift, freely. Let us therefore walk uprighty and not trade our confidence to the devil by committing sin.

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, help me to walk uprightly…
