Stay In the Embrace of Your Father’s Love

Luke 15:20-24 (NKJV)
“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned … and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it … for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.”

The attitude that the father of the prodigal son had towards his son is not the attitude that God has towards us only when we sin. Beloved, it is the attitude that God has towards us all the time! God is always excited about you and He always wants to run towards you to embrace you with His love and grace. He never wants you out of His sight. On the contrary, God always wants you to be assured that you are His beloved child and that He always wants to give you His best.

The prodigal son believed he was no longer worthy to be called a son, but the father ignored him and said, “This my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found again.” All that he had done and experienced made the prodigal son unsure of his sonship; but the love of his father preserved and reassured him of that status. There are times that life may cause us to feel so dead, lost and cut off from the love of God. In those times, God wants us to remain in the embrace of His love (Jude 1:21). He has loved us with everlasting love and He has drawn us with His loving kindness (Jer.31:3). David reminded us that loving kindness is better than life (Psa.63:3).

Child of God, we can see from our text that the prodigal son’s father did not just ask his servants to kill the fatted calf. He asked them to first bring it to where they were and then kill it. He wanted him son to see that it was the best provision he was making for him. This is how God gave His best- Jesus, for you and along with Him, God has freely given you all things (Rom.8:32). God always wants the best for you and He has made provision for you to always enjoy the best of His love and grace. Stay in the embrace of God’s great love for you. Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2Tim.2:1).

Prayer Focus:
Thank God for His everlasting love for you and receive the warm embrace of His love. Thank Him that you are His child and receive His best.
