THE CONTINUOUS FILLING OF THE SPIRIT

Acts 2: 4, Acts 4:31, Ephesians 5:18 (AMPC, MSG) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. *And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. *And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. *Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge drafts of him.

Like we see in our first and second texts above, after the initial baptism of the Spirit experience in Acts chapter 2, the Holy Spirit kept filling the disciples and empowering them from time to time as they desired and yielded to Him. In Acts chapter 4, the same people that were filled in Acts chapter 2 got filled with the Holy Spirit again. Now, they did not lose the first filling that they received. Just like it is with alcohol, when people get drunk, they don’t stay drunk forever. We say people are drunk when they are under the influence of the alcohol they took. In the same way, though we are baptized by the Spirit, we can only say we are filled with the Spirit when we are under the influence of the Spirit.

We have the responsibility to keep being filled with the Spirit. This continuous filling is about doing things that stir up the Spirit that is in us and making Him influence us in every way. The more we are conscious of the Spirit, the more we receive His empowerment and supply for every need in our lives. In Acts chapter 4, they needed boldness to preach the gospel because of the threats they were receiving. After they prayed, they were filled with the Spirit and were able to continue preaching the gospel with boldness.

Prayer and fellowship with God are major ways we experience this continuous filling of the Spirit; especially when we pray in tongues, (1Cor.14:4, 14). By their consciousness that Christ was alive and by the continuous operation of the Spirit, the disciples of Jesus remained bold and continued doing exploits. You too will do great exploits by the Spirit.

Action Point:
Pray in the Spirit right now and receive the stirring and filling of the Spirit. Receive His empowerment and supply for every area of need.
