AGE 13-15 TEACHER’S MANUAL
SUNDAY 9TH OF MARCH, 2024
LESSON TWENTY EIGHT (28)
TOPIC: SELF ESTEEM

BIBLE TEXTS: Jeremiah 17:7-8
[7]Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
[8]For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Psalms 27:1-3
[1](A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
[2]When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
[3]Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

Joshua 1:9
[9]Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

MEMORY VERSE: 2 Cor. 10:12 “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise”.

LESSON AIM: To enable teenagers know how unique each person is and appreciate their personality.

CENTRAL TRUTH: You are fearfully and wonderfully made, you are unique.

INTRODUCTION: Self-esteem is the confidence and conviction you have in S your value, skills, and morality and which as children of God can be enhanced by trusting in God. Confidence in God enhances our self-esteem. Faith in what God has promised to do for us improves our self-esteem.

Following on, from our lesson last week on mental health, a strong sense of self-worth is essential to mental wellness. A person tends to have a better sense of self-worth when they think well of their strengths and characteristics. On the other hand, poor self-esteem is a result of negative self-talk and is linked to mental illnesses like depression. Low self-esteem manifests in feelings of inferiority. Self-esteem relates with identity.

Identity is our sense of who we are. Can be something that identifies you that makes you. Your uniqueness. Personal identity refers to the unique ways that you define yourself.
